Choosing the Right Athletic Supporter + Jockstrap For Your Cup
Supporters Hold the Cup In Place
Baseball players, hockey players, cricketers, and other athletes need to wear protective cups, but choosing the right jockstrap can be just as important as finding a sturdy cup. If you slide your cup into a one-size-fits-all athletic supporter, or if your jockstrap doesn’t fit comfortably, your cup may slide around during the course of a game, leaving you unprotected.
NutShellz® athletic supporter jock shorts have a built-in jockstrap, designed to fit perfectly with our signature protective cups, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds:
- 1. The chafing-free comfort of compression shorts
- 2. The support and cup cold of a well-fitting jockstrap
The Right Product Will Avoid Chafing
Chafing is a serious issue for any athlete, and in a worst-case scenario, it can lead a player to discard the jockstrap altogether. You should never play a contact sport without an athletic cup, but you shouldn’t need to suffer from rashes and other discomfort either.
That’s why our men’s athletic supporters are a two-in-one product. You won’t suffer from chafing because of the compression shorts design, but you can still get great protection from the built-in jockstrap (which holds the cup perfectly in position).
How Do You Know What Size Jockstrap or Athletic Supporter to Buy?
Shop for an athletic supporter the same way you would shop for underwear - take your bodyweight, waist size, and other anatomical considerations into account. You don’t want your compression shorts to dig into your waist too much, or you may experience discomfort while playing your sport.
Do You Need a Jockstrap or Athletic Supporter Without a Cup?
No, you don’t necessarily need to wear a jockstrap for non-contact sports. Some athletes think that wearing a jockstrap to the gym will help prevent hernias while lifting weights, but truthfully, correct breathing and lifting technique will do that. You’ll get more benefit from a weightlifting belt.
That said, runners, basketball players, and other dynamic athletes find that they perform better with the support that a jockstrap or compression shorts can provide. You can generally get the same support from a well-fitting pair of underwear.
